The ascent to Le Palastre leads through alpine meadows and grassland to a summit offering remarkable views over the Champsaur Valley, the Gap area and the surrounding mountain ranges. The difficult Le Palastre hike begins in Saint-Jean-Saint-Nicolas, is 9.4 km long, follows a there-and-back route and has an elevation gain of 667 metres.

Nature and Trails
The circular trail Le circuit de l'Adou begins in Saint-Jean-Saint-Nicolas. Information panels provide details about aquatic habitats. The route Les rives du Drac follows the Drac to Les Ricous and returns via the covered Canal de Gap below the La Sapinière forest.
Culture and History
The municipal Médiathèque offers collections, services and events for children and adults throughout the year in a 185 m² space. Every year, it takes part in “Partir en livre”, a summer festival held outside library premises and dedicated to children’s and young people’s literature.
The restored Manoir de Prégentil was probably built in the first quarter of the 16th century and was classified as a Monument historique in 1988. The Musée du moulin has five themed rooms covering 400 m², where visitors can discover the Champsaur, everyday life and traditional occupations. The lively, participatory guided tours demonstrate traditional activities such as breadmaking and weaving wool and hemp.
The Chapelle des Patarons dates from 1814 and features geometric murals and a remarkable altarpiece. Its common name is connected with the “Petite Église” in the Champsaur, which some residents joined after the 1801 Concordat because they rejected the reform. On the circular trail Les Roranches, visitors can discover the Chapelle Saint-Pancrace des Roranches. The hamlet of Hameau des Roranches is considered representative of the traditional settlement pattern of the Champsaur and still has a well-preserved bread oven. The Église paroissiale Saint-Nicolas bears the year 1852 on its lintel.
Activities
The Bike park du Châtelard has 2.8 km of playfully designed cross-country mountain bike trails, with one green, one blue and one red route.
The Base de loisirs du Châtelard offers sports courts for basketball, handball, volleyball, five-a-side football, field hockey, badminton and ball tennis, as well as children’s play equipment, a roller hockey rink, a skate park, an orienteering course and a picnic area.
The Patinoire de Pont du Fossé is an artificial 720 m² outdoor ice rink and also offers an entertainment programme.
Regional Surroundings
Pont-du-Fossé provides access to the high valleys and the southwestern entrances to the Parc national des Écrins. The Friday market offers culinary products from the Champsaur Valgaudemar area and the surrounding regions.
