Nature

The Don is one of the local rivers of Petit-Auverné. The grounds of the Domaine des Êtres are rocky; the Don flows below them. A pre-emption right exists for an area of around 50 hectares in the Don valley under the Espaces Naturels Sensibles scheme. Some plots in the ENS area in the Don valley are open to the public. Elevated points in the north and southeast of the municipality offer extensive panoramic views.

Culture

The parish church of Saint-Sulpice-le-Pieux in Petit-Auverné houses a processional banner dedicated to Saint Sulpicius. The parish church of Saint-Sulpice in Petit-Auverné was built between 1844 and 1849. The Moulin de Violette archaeological site is listed as containing a Neolithic menhir and a Neolithic tumulus.

The Sophie Trébuchet Arboretum is located at the Manoir de la Renaudière. It contains fourteen trees originally native to the region, as well as 3,700 aromatic and perennial plants. Petit-Auverné also offers a street art trail. The trail includes a map for locating its outdoor murals and installations, as well as works created together with local residents and children.

History

Throughout its history, the Manoir de la Renaudière was home to Sophie Trébuchet, Victor Hugo’s mother. In the 18th century, the manor belonged to Jean Trébuchet. The Manoir de la Renaudière was converted into a media library.

At the Domaine des Êtres, the Feast of the Assumption was celebrated every year at a grotto dedicated to the Holy Family. The oldest of the crosses mentioned near La Jumelais dates from 1597.
