Trails

The Circuit de la Rotte aux Loups is a 7-kilometre-long trail through the forest of Saint-Mars-la-Jaille; its starting point is at Les Sencies.

The Parcours Permanent d’Orientation is located in the Plan d’eau park in Vallons-de-l’Erdre in Saint-Mars-la-Jaille. It includes both an orienteering course involving the search for and marking of checkpoints and a cultural and historical trail with questions about the history of the municipality, as well as its fauna and flora.

In the vicinity of Saint-Mars-la-Jaille, the Plan d’eau des Lavandières offers picnic tables and a leisure area with a boules court and children’s playground.

Culture and History

The Moulin de la Charlotte is the only watermill in Saint-Mars-la-Jaille; its origins are believed to date back to the 12th century. The mechanism and millstones are still present and are considered evidence of pre-industrial milling technology.

The Parc du Château de La Ferronnays is an 18th-century park that has been listed as a historic monument since 1994. It belongs to the “Jardins de France” network. The park is open on Sundays and public holidays from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The Musée L’Aventure Braud has three exhibition rooms dedicated to the development of grain and grape harvesting over the past century. The museum can be visited throughout the year by prior reservation.

BRAUD was founded in Saint-Mars-la-Jaille in 1898 by Alexandre Braud.

The Église Saint-Médard in Saint-Mars-la-Jaille was rebuilt in 1840 to replace an earlier building dating from 1344. It houses a large statue of Saint Médard as well as marble statuettes depicting the theological virtues.

The Croix Letort commemorates Jacques Letort, who was executed by the Chouans on 16 December 1793. Every year, a guided tour with commentary takes place at the Croix Letort during the European Heritage Days.

A stone statue of an armed knight stands on Avenue Charles-Henri de Cossé-Brissac in Saint-Mars-la-Jaille. Rue d’Ancenis is also home to a water tower built in 1961, with an unusual shape and the colours of the agricultural machinery manufacturer.
