Routes
The coastal customs path in Préfailles is classified as the GR8 long-distance hiking trail and is reserved exclusively for pedestrians. The Vélocéan departmental cycle route begins at Pointe Saint-Gildas. The circular route around Pointe Saint-Gildas is 7.1 km long and takes approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes.

The area designated as the Pointe Saint-Gildas regional nature reserve in 2014 contributes to preserving this natural environment. 41 natural habitats have been documented for the Pointe Saint-Gildas regional nature reserve; 46 % of them are considered habitats of Community interest. The same protected area is recorded as being home to 337 plant species, including 84 notable plant species.
In the Port aux Ânes area, the département is acquiring properties in order to preserve the natural environment as part of the Espaces Naturels Sensibles (ENS).
Culture and maritime history
The Chapelle Notre-Dame de Préfailles was completed in 1852 and enlarged between 1890 and 1900 with two side chapels. It continues to be used for religious services; in summer, it hosts well-known classical music concerts. The Chapelle Notre-Dame de Préfailles can be discovered via the “L'histoire de Préfailles” heritage interpretation trail.
The Circuit des Peintres passes 23 works of art created between 1870 and 2012 and runs from Pointe Saint-Gildas via Port-aux-Goths to the town centre. The work “Ker Messe” is a watercolour from 1891 and depicts the Chapelle Saint Gildas, built on the plateau in 1852. The painting “Les ramasseurs de goémon” by René Rousseau-Decelle was created around 1920.
The Musée du sémaphore at Pointe Saint-Gildas invites visitors to understand how a semaphore operates, the development of maritime communication and the importance of coastal surveillance. Since 2004, the Sémaphore de la Pointe Saint-Gildas has been a museographic exhibition venue about semaphores, lighthouses and the lives of their keepers. Its permanent exhibition covers maritime communication, the lives of lighthouse keepers and major shipwrecks in the Loire estuary.
The second floor of the Sémaphore de la Pointe Saint-Gildas offers panoramic views over the Bay of Bourgneuf and the Loire estuary. The visitor route includes a room dedicated entirely to children. The Sémaphore de la Pointe Saint-Gildas in Préfailles can be reached via the coastal path.
