Culture

The origins of the Notre Dame des Dons chapel date back to the 11th to 12th centuries. Around 1460, it was restored by François II, Duke of Brittany and father of Duchess Anne. The chapel was a famous Breton pilgrimage site where visits by members of the nobility became increasingly frequent, including visits by Duchess Anne of Brittany.

Another special attraction is the Brosserie Julio – Andrée Jardin in Treillières. For several generations, it has maintained a special craft of brushmaking for industrial applications and household accessories. During a visit, visitors can learn about the individual stages of brushmaking, from drilling the wood and inserting the fibres to the finishing work. Visitors can also see workshops in operation and the craft processes involved in brushmaking.

In the surrounding area of Treillières are Château de la Bretonnière, the Musée de l'imprimerie and the Machines de l'île museum. The museum designated as closed, PARC Artothèque de Nantes (Fermée), is also located in the surrounding area of Treillières.

Landscape

The Circuit des villages anciens loop trail passes through formerly cultivated heathlands, dense bocage and green lanes. La Ménardais is a granite village with old houses and their associated outbuildings.

In the wider regional surroundings of Treillières are the island of Île Beaulieu, the island of Île Pivin, the island of Île la Chenaie and the island of Île d'Arouix.

Nature and Trails

Parc du Haut-Gesvres is a nature and leisure park with an educational loop trail through the park and numerous remarkable trees. It also has a large play structure with slides, bridges, nets, climbing walls and a tree house, as well as picnic tables nearby.

The La Vallée du Gesvres loop trail is designated for hiking, mountain biking and horse riding. A third municipal hiking trail leads to the Moulin de Fort L’Evêque mill. A third municipal hiking trail offers views of the remains of a former feudal castle in La Houssaie.
