Trails and Nature
The Mottechaix–Rousselière circular route is 13.3 km long and runs on both sides of the Sèvre; it focuses on the river's former uses and Vertou's natural heritage. The Ramée–Ville-au-Blanc circular route is 11.9 km long and passes between villages, vineyards, and the Sèvre through natural and cultural landscapes. The circular route around Portillon is 10 km long and leads from the village of Portillon via Parc du Loiry to Coteau du Chêne, showcasing Vertou's plant and river heritage.
The Club de Canoë Kayak de Vertou offers canoeing on the Sèvre nantaise and rents canoes and kayaks for one to four people for sporty or family day trips. At the Base de loisirs du Loiry, canoes, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards are available to rent for periods ranging from one hour to a full day.
Cycling
The municipality of Vertou has more than 30 km of cycling infrastructure, making it possible to get around within the municipality. The Vélidéale runs along the Route de la Ville Bachelier to the former village of Portillon, which has a remarkable architectural heritage.
Culture and History
The Vertou lock is still in operation. Exhibitions by contemporary artists are held at the Moulin Gautron every year. The Chaussée des Moines dates back to a ford built around the year 1000 by Benedictine monks from the Abbey of Saint-Martin-de-Vertou; later, the weir, lock, and mills were built there, and the weir maintains a water level upstream sufficient for navigation as far as Monnières and Château-Thébaud.
