Nature and Trails

The Cens Valley crosses Orvault over a length of 9 kilometres and is partly designated as a ZNIEFF (Zone naturelle d’intérêt écologique, faunistique et floristique), a natural area of ecological, faunal and floristic interest. Observation areas and information boards about the fauna and flora have been set up in the valley. The circular trail through the Cens Valley is 6 to 7 kilometres long and takes approximately one and a half hours on average.

Activities

At the Domaine de la Tour, the orienteering course comprises 20 marked routes for schools, groups, individuals and families. Access to the orienteering course at the Domaine de la Tour is free of charge.

Another route is the “L’art dans la Ville” trail, featuring around thirty urban frescoes, stickers and sculptures. It can be explored on foot or by bicycle by following the black QR codes.

Those who choose Orvault as a holiday destination may wish to rent a holiday apartment.

Culture and Townscape

The Château de la Gobinière houses a theatre in the former stables. The château has exhibition spaces in the château and in the greenhouse. The estate also includes the Parc Michel Baudry / Parc de la Gobinière, which opens 7 hectares of green space to the public.

The chapel of the Château de la Tour contains a stained-glass work from the first half of the 16th century, which was classified as a historic object in 1988.

Sacred Sites

The Church of Saint-Léger in Orvault is a neo-Gothic building without a bell tower. It has an organ built towards the end of the 19th century by the organ builder Auguste Tolbecque. Its stained-glass windows depict the life of Saint Léger.

The Calvaire du Bourg comprises a small chapel with a high platform enclosed by a balustrade, accessible via two side staircases. From there, the panoramic view extends over the town centre, the Étang de la Fabrique and the Cens Valley.
