Culture and History

The centre of Saint-Léonard is a former castelnau with preserved fortification elements. The former parish church of Saint-Léonard stood within the enclosure and was destroyed by fire in 1870.

Nature

Saint-Léonard is part of the 814.96-hectare ZNIEFF type 2 “Cours de l’Arrats”. The Cours de l’Arrats corridor includes the river itself, its riverside woodland and flood-prone areas in the valley floor. The rare and nationally protected Roman hyacinth (Bellevalia romana) occurs in this corridor; there are several populations along the river, some of which are among the most significant in the département.

Cycling

The “Entre Arratz et Auroue en VAE” route is a 30-kilometre, moderately difficult circular route for electrically assisted cycling. The “Entre Arratz et Auroue en VAE” e-bike loop reaches Saint-Léonard at kilometre 20. The route is not signposted and runs along paved surfaces such as asphalt, concrete or wooden decking. At the Saint-Léonard station on the cycle route, there is a private Renaissance château as well as a charming wooden market hall.

Hiking

One hike led through woodland and paths in the surrounding countryside to “Le Moulin”, where a refreshment break was taken.
