Peyrusse-Grande is considered a former feudal village built along a ridge known as “La Ténarèze” or “route de César”. The historic La Ténarèze route passes through Bars and Peyrusse-Grande, among other places, and then continues via Eauze towards Bordeaux.
Culture and History
Peyrusse-Grande is home to the Église Saint-Mamet, the former church of a Cluniac priory. Its transept, choir and chapels date from the 11th century. The chevet has an unusual layout consisting of three separate parts: the choir and offset side chapels.
The painting “Crucifixion” is also located in the Église Saint-Mamet. It was placed under protection as a movable object on 22 October 1997.
The Chapelle Notre-Dame du Verger is listed as a landmark of Peyrusse-Grande; it is associated with a spring described as miraculous.
