Lamaguère is part of the “Vallée et des Coteaux de la Lauze” Natura 2000 site. It covers 5,399 hectares and includes the three rivers Gimone, Lauze and Arrats. Within the site, four habitat types of Community interest occur in Lamaguère, including dry calcareous grasslands and species-poor lowland hay meadows.

Lamaguère’s aquatic ecological network directly includes the Arrats and the Lauze, as well as the aquatic and terrestrial habitats associated with them.

Culture

The Église Saint-Michel in Lamaguère is listed as a historic monument; the listing was made by decree of 27 December 1974.

The ruins of the medieval castle include a massive wall of the keep and a round tower with an opening that is still intact. Géraud de la Barthe, Archbishop of Auch, acquired the castle in 1175 from the brothers Arnaud and Guilhem Lamaguère, thereby making it a permanent possession of the archbishopric.

The Chapel of Libou stands on very old foundations on a hilltop. It has a short nave with a ceiling and a semicircular apse; its west façade has a bell gable.

Geographical setting

Lamaguère is accessed from the west via the RD40 in the Arrats valley and from the east via the RD283 in the Lauze valley.

Trails

The Chemin des Évêques – PR06 – Lamaguère is a 5.0 km hiking trail with 101 m of ascent and 101 m of descent. The route is listed for hiking, mountain biking and horse riding. It passes through a protected area classified as a Natura 2000 site and, in Lamaguère, passes a washhouse.
