Vaureilles is located on the Ségala Plateau and has preserved its authenticity with a rural landscape that has been spared the impact of modern life. Part of the municipality’s territory belongs to the Natura 2000 site “Étangs du Ségala”, a special protection area with the code FR 7300876.
Those who have chosen Vaureilles as their destination may wish to rent a holiday apartment here.
Culture
In Pachins, the Église de Pachins is a place with several notable features. Its bell tower is 33 metres high and serves as a landmark above the Toulzou Valley on the surrounding plateau. The church was finally put into service in 1904; its stained-glass windows were funded by donations from the village’s residents at the time. A statue of Cardinal François Marty also stands in front of the Église de Pachins.
Cardinal François Marty has rested since February 1994 in the family grave at the corner of the Pachins village cemetery opposite the entrance gate.
The Gothic Église de Vaureilles also dates from the 16th century, was later remodelled and features decorated keystones with heraldic motifs. One corbel depicts a little man and a dog fighting over a ham. According to tradition, the Église de Vaureilles was also associated with an earlier pilgrimage against abscesses.
Trails and Events
The “Au pays de Mgr Marty” hiking trail begins in Vaureilles village square, in front of the war memorial or the town hall. It is 9 kilometres long and has 130 metres of cumulative positive elevation gain.
Reopened in 2022, the Chemin de l’Étang de Pachins connects the Vaureilles mill with the Pachins mill. At the beginning of August, the trail was inaugurated with a hike held as part of the fête votive of Pachins.
At the fête votive of Vaureilles, a lawnmower tractor race was held for the second consecutive year on the Sunday of the festival, and it was a great success.
