The Plan d'eau de Sussac covers 4 hectares, is located 200 metres from the town centre at the edge of the forest and has a sandy beach. Culture

The parish church of Sussac is the Eglise Saint-Pardoux, Saint-Martin. The church is a neo-Romanesque building that was rebuilt around 1889. Its masonry consists of granite, rubble stone and render, topped with a slate roof.

History

The Festival du Mont Gargan takes place every year around 15 August in the area around Sussac. A symbolic Allied weapons drop took place in daylight at Clos de Sussac on 14 July 1944. A memorial ceremony is held every year on 6 June at Clos de Sussac, in the area around Sussac.

The ruins of the Notre-Dame-de-Bon Secours chapel have been preserved on the summit of Mont Gargan, in the area around Sussac. During the Second World War, Mont Gargan was an important site of the Resistance; the Battle of Mont Gargan took place there in July 1944. A memorial stele was erected at Le Clos in honour of Violette Szabo. Violette Szabo was parachuted into the hamlet of Le Clos during the Second World War. On the route near Sussac, the Château de la Villa was one of the command posts of Colonel Georges Guingouin, the leader of the local Resistance.

Nature and activities

The Nahani Ranch in Sussac offers a mountain trail course, a 20 x 40-metre riding arena and a 20-metre round pen for horse training. The Nahani Ranch also offers self-guided rides around the estate and Mont Gargan, with GPS routes provided.

The Chemin de Sussac au Mont Gargan passes through landscapes associated with the Resistance and offers the opportunity to discover the local fauna and flora.

To reach the Chemin de Sussac au Mont Gargan, take exit 35 of the A20 towards Eymoutiers, then follow the D15 from La Croix Lattée and the D39 to Sussac and the Plan d'eau.
