Peyrat-Le-Château: Apartments and Holiday Homes
Peyrat-le-Château combines protected nature, bodies of water and a remarkable cultural and historical heritage. At its centre lies the 7.5-hectare Étang de Peyrat. Those who have chosen Peyrat-le-Château as their holiday destination may wish to rent an apartment.
Culture and History
The Église Saint-Martin et Saint-Martial is listed as a historic monument; this protected status has applied since 6 February 1926. The Tour Carrée is also part of the townscape: a medieval defensive tower with a gateway function, built in the 15th century as part of the redevelopment of the fortifications.
The Musée de la Résistance presents various objects, weapons and photographs in three exhibition rooms relating to the Résistance maquis of Georges Guingouin and the first FTPF brigade of Limousin. The Fontaine St Martin formerly supplied the town with drinking water.
Trails and Landscape
The Circuit de Peyrat-le-Château is a 6.2-kilometre, moderately difficult circular hiking trail with 100 metres of elevation gain and accessibility for mountain bikes. Along this route, there is also an opportunity to enter a building open to the public and view the millstones of a former paper mill.
Le Ruisseau des Moulins is associated with a 7.1-kilometre, moderately difficult circular hiking trail with purple markings. At the Ruisseau des Moulins near Peyrat-le-Château are the remains of very old mills with millstones and hydraulic structures; the course of the stream is characterised by these historic mill remains.
Another longer route is Le Sentier de rives. It begins and ends at the Office de tourisme du Lac de Vassivière in Auphelle and passes through Peyrat-le-Château, Beaumont-du-Lac, Royère-de-Vassivière and Faux-la-Montagne.
Nature and Bodies of Water
The Bois de Crozat is a protected Natura 2000 woodland area extending across the municipalities of Peyrat-le-Château and Beaumont-du-Lac. The 7.5-hectare Étang de Peyrat is also located in the centre of Peyrat-le-Château.
