The route from Saint-Julien-le-Petit to Lac de Vassivière at Auphelle begins at Place de l'Église in Saint-Julien-le-Petit and ends at Plage d'Auphelle. It is a difficult GRP® crossing of around six hours over 22.9 km.
Water
The Maulde offers swimming opportunities in Saint-Julien-le-Petit and is a supervised bathing area there in 2026. The bathing season runs from 1 July to 31 August 2026.
Plage de Saint-Julien-le-Petit on the Martineix reservoir offers accessible access, children's play equipment, a shaded beach and a first-aid station. In July and August, supervised swimming is offered there daily except Tuesdays from 14:00 to 19:00.
Culture and History
The parish church of Saint-Julien was built around 1200, partially rebuilt in the 15th century and repaired in the 18th century using materials from the demolished chapel of Montlaron.
The Barrage du Mont-Larron was built from 1951 to 1953, commissioned in 1953 and constructed as a concrete arch dam with several arches.
The “Arbre aux poules” is a remarkable oak at a crossroads located at 547 m and is considered part of the heritage of Saint-Julien-le-Petit due to its size and age.
