History and Church
The Gallo-Roman archaeological site “Gisement gallo-romain (portion) dit des Couvents” in La Chapelle-Montbrandeix is classified as a protected site; the classification took place on 22 August 1979. At the Les Couvents site, archaeological discoveries date from the Neolithic period through to the 4th or 5th century AD. In fact, the Les Couvents site was inhabited only in the 3rd or 4th century AD.
The church in La Chapelle-Montbrandeix appears to have been built in the 12th century. It has a large bell tower with a square base dating from 1880. The choir contains a large restored painting depicting the Descent from the Cross.
