The 36-hectare Étang de la Pouge is part of the Natura 2000 network. Culture and History

The Château de Saint-Auvent, dating from the 12th, 17th and 18th centuries, is listed as a historic monument. Every year, it is a venue for artistic encounters featuring contemporary artworks and is open to a wide audience. The church of Saint-Auvent has a crypt that opens at the foot of the chancel steps. The Sanctuaire Notre-Dame-de-la-Paix is known as the “little Lourdes of Limousin”.

The site of the Dolmen de Chez Moutaud has been classified as a historic monument since 6 February 1940. Just a few dozen metres apart, it contains an imposing dolmen and a menhir, regarded as evidence of human settlement during the Neolithic period. The Pont et Moulin de Lascaux ensemble has been listed in the register of historic monuments since 20 June 2011; the GR 48 follows the route by the Pont et Moulin de Lascaux. A rocky outcrop shaped by erosion served as an ideal military platform.

Hiking and Discovery

At the exit of Saint-Auvent towards Rochechouart, the Via Agrippa can be accessed at the first bend of the D58; it leads to the gorges of the Gorre and the Gorret. The Uni’Vert Trail no. 3, “Via Agrippa”, is a difficult 11.5-kilometre circular route starting in Saint-Auvent. The Histoire et Nature route, by contrast, is an easy 3.8-kilometre circular trail, also starting in Saint-Auvent. Tèrra Aventura: Le nouveau défi de la Perinqueta is a five-kilometre geocaching trail by the water.

Les P'tites Mains pour Demain offers groups, families and friends farm visits as well as the opportunity to feed the animals. Workshops on nature discovery and environmental education are also offered by appointment.

Regional Specialities

La Grange du Noir produces fresh and matured raw-milk sheep's cheeses, including natural and flavoured varieties as well as faisselles, tommes and tommettes. The farm offers direct sales from the farm and, by appointment, tours of the premises.
