The completely renovated Musée Émile Jean presents collections of documents and objects relating to the history of Villiers-sur-Marne. Using exhibits, the museum also reconstructs everyday life in the Brie region, covering topics including viticulture, the baking trade and the Franco-Prussian War of 1870.

Another cultural venue is the Le Casino cinema. Every week, it shows four to five films, including family films, arthouse films and films for young audiences. The cinema regularly supplements its programme with events, meetings and Ciné-Débats as well as Ciné-Concerts.

History

The second “Monument aux morts” in Villiers-sur-Marne is part of the town’s historical character. It was erected in 1921 in memory of those who fell in the 1914–1918 war. Villa Michot is an estate dating from the 1870s.

The Saint-Jacques-Saint-Christophe church in Villiers-sur-Marne probably dates from the 13th century. A bell-tower portal from the 14th century and two tomb slabs from the same century have been preserved. The church is listed as a “Monument historique”.

Geographical Location

Villiers-sur-Marne lies on the edge of the Brie plateau at an altitude of 98 metres above sea level. The town is served by RER Line E via Villiers-sur-Marne station.
