Maisons-Alfort: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The campus of the École nationale vétérinaire d’Alfort, with the Musée Fragonard, is accessible by metro, RER, bus and car. The Musée Fragonard was founded in 1766 at the same time as the École royale vétérinaire de Paris, offers unguided visits as well as guided group tours, and houses a collection of more than 4,200 objects dedicated to animals and their anatomy.

For my trip to Maisons-Alfort, I would like to rent a holiday apartment and include the Musée Fragonard, the Botanical Garden and the Promenade Paul Cézanne in my itinerary.

Culture

The Musée de Maisons-Alfort has been housed in the Château de Réghat since September 2003 and displays collections on the history of Maisons-Alfort and its inhabitants across 250 m² of exhibition space. The Château de Réghat is an 18th-century estate that formerly served Louis XV as a hunting meeting place and the Marquise de Pompadour as a residence. The garden façades and roofs of the Château de Réghat have been listed in the supplementary inventory of historic monuments since 1979.

The Église Sainte-Agnès is a modernist-inspired church from the “Chantiers du Cardinal” movement and was consecrated in June 1933. It has been classified as a Monument Historique since 21 December 1984.

The Théâtre Claude Debussy, built in 1981, has an unusual façade influenced by antiquity, featuring a colonnade, hanging garden and six ceramic panels dedicated to music, theatre and dance. Since 2016, it has also served as a cinema. The Théâtres de Maisons-Alfort comprise the two venues DEBUSSY and NECC and aim to promote a varied and multidisciplinary programme for a broad audience. They offer family performances open to everyone aged three and over.

Nature

The Botanical Garden was established in 1766 and has a scientifically and historically significant collection of honey, poisonous and medicinal plants. It offers guided tours for school, association, senior and private groups, presenting plants and their uses in medicine and nutrition.

The Ferme de Maisons-Alfort is used to reintroduce old French breeds of protected farm animals. It teaches the inhabitants of Maisons-Alfort about rural life, nature and wildlife and regularly invites residents to activities such as sheep shearing and “Apprentis-fermiers” days.

The Parc du Moulin Brûlé, the Ferme de Maisons-Alfort and the green network in the town centre are part of the “Refuges LPO” programme for the period 2025–2029.

Getting Around

The Promenade Paul Cézanne stretches for more than 4 km through Maisons-Alfort. A circular route starting at Maisons-Alfort–Alfortville station passes through the seven districts of Maisons-Alfort. A circular route exploring the architectural and landscape heritage of Maisons-Alfort includes 32 points of interest.
