The Terrasses de Chennevières were laid out in 1883 and designated as a classified site in 1923. From there, the panorama stretches across Paris. Behind the town hall is also the Terrasse panoramique de Chennevières, a classified viewpoint with an orientation table.
Landscape and views
The Parc départemental de la Plaine des Bordes is a 9-hectare natural area dedicated to nature conservation and recreational activities. Another green space is Parc Corot: the municipality created it in 1959 after acquiring the property from Mr and Mrs Corot.
For a trip to Chennevières-sur-Marne with the Terrasses de Chennevières, Parc Corot and Fort de Champigny, you may wish to rent a holiday apartment.
Culture and history
The Church of Saint-Pierre has been classified as a historic monument since 1920. Inside are two panels with wall paintings from the late 15th or early 16th century, depicting haloed figures. The chancel termination is of the Champagne type and features semicircular side chapels that extend beyond the semicircle.
Fort de Champigny is part of the fortified belt around Paris, known as the “ceinture de fer”, which was built after the Franco-Prussian War of 1870. The fort itself was built between 1878 and 1880. The outer promenade is open to all visitors. The interior promenades include the powder magazine garden, Rue des Remparts, the Théâtre de verdure and the barracks building.
The history of the railway can also be seen in the townscape. The former Chennevières station features salmon-pink bricks, a base made of hewn stone and light-green ceramic decoration. It also bears the inscription “Chemin de Fer de Ceinture”. The station at 41 Avenue de la Gare in Chennevières-sur-Marne was built in 1929 as part of the establishment of the supplementary line of the Grande Ceinture de Paris.
