Arcueil combines striking evidence of its history with a diverse cultural offering. The Gallo-Roman aqueduct of Arcueil was rebuilt from 1613 to 1623 during the regency of Marie de Médicis, the mother of Louis XIII.

History

The Église Saint-Denys was largely built in the first half of the 13th century. The choir is dated to around 1220 to 1230 and the nave to around 1240 to 1250. The church may have served as a model for the construction of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris.

The Maison des Gardes is the last surviving relic of the rule of the Princes of Lorraine from the 17th century.

Culture and Art

Anis Gras – Le Lieu de l’Autre offers theatre, dance, music, visual arts, painting, photography and cinema. The municipal Julio Gonzalez Gallery has hosted exhibitions of contemporary art since 1992. Getting There

From Paris, Arcueil can be reached by taking the RER B towards Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse; get off at Laplace or Arcueil-Cachan stations.

Surroundings

The surroundings of Arcueil include the Musée de Cluny, a museum, and the Abbaye Sainte-Geneviève de Paris, a historic site. Also located there are the Château de Saint-Cloud, a château, and the École de Médicine, a historic site.

The surrounding area also includes Île Saint-Louis, an island, the Jardin du Luxembourg, a garden, and the Bois de Boulogne, a park.
