History and Culture

The Lavoir des Vannes is one of four washhouses along the Orvanne in Salins.

The former Maison des Dîmes originally served as a place for collecting the church tithe paid in kind. The Maison Directoire, also known as Château de Bois-Millet, was built on the foundations of a fortified castle dating from the late 17th and early 18th centuries.

The Ferme de Villiers has a sandstone and brick dovecote. The Château de Salins was built between 1470 and 1484 by Guillaume de Courtenay. The original Château de Salins was surrounded by moats. In the 18th century, Trudaine, Seigneur of Montigny-Lencoup and Salins, extended the Château de Salins on its southern side.

The Église Saint-Apollinaire was built at the end of the 12th or the beginning of the 13th century. It houses two carved stone recumbent figures from the 13th century. Its choir is protected by an 18th-century wrought-iron grille. The church has a cruciform floor plan and a bell tower with four gables and a double-pitched roof.

Hiking trail no. 09, “Petits villages et vallons briards,” is 17 km long in the Salins / Saint-Germain-Laval area and has a stated duration of 4 hours and 30 minutes. An 11.5 km hike near Salins leads through green landscapes and golden fields.
