Culture and History

The cultural history of Chaumes-en-Brie includes the Église Saint-Pierre Saint-Paul. It is a 13th-century church; its Gothic choir was remodelled in the 17th and 19th centuries. It has been protected as a Monument historique by decree of 4 December 1942.

Historical traces can also be found at the Tour d'Arcy and the Château de la Tourelle. The Tour d'Arcy is privately owned, visible from the public road and not open to visitors. The remains of the Château de la Tourelle are also privately owned, visible from the public road and not open to visitors. The towers of the Château de la Tourelle are the last remains of a fortified farm on the fief of La Forêt, which was destroyed during the French Revolution; today, they are located in the municipality of Chaumes-en-Brie.

Nature and Trails

The Parc municipal Docteur Emmanuelli, also known as Parc de Meaux, contains almost 40 different tree species, including some notable specimens.

The La Ferme de Forest circular trail is 11.1 km long, takes approximately three hours, is marked in green and has a moderate difficulty level. It invites visitors to discover the Ferme de Forest and has been awarded the FFRandonnée label. The La Ferme de Forest route crosses the Yerres on the viaduct and passes through Chaumes-en-Brie and Verneuil-l’Étang.

The Château du Vivier circular trail is 10.2 km long, takes approximately two and a half hours, is marked in magenta and has a moderate difficulty level. It passes the clearly visible ruins park of the Château du Vivier, runs between the ponds and crosses Chaumes-en-Brie and Fontenay-Trésigny.

A hiking trail uses the Viaduc Ferroviaire de l’Yerres and offers panoramic views of the town of Chaumes-en-Brie.

Local Production

Ferme de Forest – Meunerie produces white flour as well as semi-wholemeal, wholemeal and integral wheat flours, flours made from old wheat varieties and durum wheat, as well as barley, maize, rye and buckwheat flour; it also produces extra-fine semolina from soft and durum wheat.
