Culture

The present-day church of Offemont, dedicated to Saint Augustine, was built from 1844 onwards. In Le Martinet in Offemont, there is a Gallo-Roman temple structure, or fanum. It was listed as a historic monument by decree of 15 April 1987.

For several centuries, the quarries of Offemont supplied pink sandstone for numerous buildings, including Saint Christopher Cathedral and the church of Offemont. The complete pottery workshop was also listed as a historic monument by decree of 2 November 1987.

Nature

The Canal du Martinet, a diversion of the Savoureuse, runs along the Arsot district, crosses the Martinet intersection and flows into the Étang des Forges at the lagoon on its northwestern shore.

The long-distance hiking trail GR 532 runs through the communal forest of Offemont. For the route around the Étang des Forges, La Cornée and Le Breuil are listed as areas with the highest level of public use.

Events

The traditional municipal festival, “Fête de la Commune”, takes place every year in June at the MIEL. Offemont also hosts an annual “Week-end Découvertes”, during which sports and cultural activities are presented and visitors can attend open days held by numerous associations. The “Week-end Découvertes” includes the “Photo-Passion” photo exhibition at the MIEL.

History

From 1913 to 1948, local railway trains ran in Offemont between Belfort and Rougemont-le-Château; the route followed what is now the cycle path.
