Culture and history

The Église Saint-Ambroise was rebuilt between 1846 and 1850 in a Romanesque-inspired style. Its bell tower was rebuilt to its original height in 2001 after the 1999 storm.

The Fontaine Saint-Ambroise site includes a small Gallo-Roman aqueduct and a statue of Saint Ambrose made from pink sandstone, recreated by local stonemasons. The fountain is located near Bavilliers' old cemetery and is associated with ancient beliefs about healing effects for eye inflammation.

The Roman columns of Bavilliers testify to the commune's Gallo-Roman origins; significant remains discovered during excavations are on display at the Belfort Museum.

Nature

Fallow deer roam freely in Parc Francis Bedat, which covers more than four hectares. The park also has adventure courses and a climbing wall around the former water tower.

Parc du Chênois offers a pond and a natural setting enjoyed by walkers, anglers, horse riders and families.

Between Essert and Bavilliers lies Trou La Dame, where the Douce disappears underground and resurfaces 150 metres farther on.

Activities

The 7-km circular route in Bavilliers is relatively flat and suitable for family hikes.
