Dampierre: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Dampierre is situated above the Doubs valley and overlooks it. Those who choose Dampierre as a destination may wish to rent a holiday apartment.

Landscape and Water

A two-kilometre-long, straight section of the Canal Napoléon, later the Canal du Rhône au Rhin, runs through Dampierre. This section was excavated with pickaxes by Austrian prisoners from 1811 to 1814.

The five-hectare Étang du Patouillet lies in the Le Bourgeois forest area of the Dampierre forest. The body of water is of notable importance for fishing and ornithology. Fishing is permitted at the Étang du Patouillet for people with a fishing permit.

Culture and History

Dampierre’s present-day church is dedicated to Saint Peter and was consecrated in 1738. The church’s altarpiece was classified as a historic monument by the Beaux-Arts in 1958. The holy-water font is the only surviving relic of Dampierre’s original church.

Medieval iron-ore mining areas have been located in the Bois Bourgeois. Iron slag and other iron residues indicate the presence of one or more furnaces.

At the Lavoir des Minerais, a spring that supplied drinking water was diverted in 1900; a cattle watering trough was built along the Chemin de la Plaine.

Local Life

A market takes place in Dampierre on Sunday mornings.
