Lavoncourt: Holiday apartments and houses

Lavoncourt’s focal point is the Church of Saint Valentine, which has been listed in its entirety as a Monument historique since 12 October 2016. The current building was reconstructed in 1670 on the ruins of the older church, which had been burned down by the Swedes during the siege of 1637. Inside are statues and paintings from the 17th and 18th centuries, as well as numerous protected furnishings and goldsmiths’ works.

Culture

One of the church’s notable features is the high altar reredos in the Church of Saint Valentine in Lavoncourt. It is made of polychrome-painted and gilded wood and was installed in the first third of the 18th century. Its central painting depicts an episode from the life of Saint Valentine. The church’s historic appearance also includes a 15th-century bell tower with windows in the Romanesque style.

Another cultural perspective is offered by the Jules Rimet cycling loop (No. 20). It is characterised by preserved religious heritage such as altarpieces, churches, chapels and wayside shrines.

History

Only a motte on the banks of the Gourgeonne remains of Lavoncourt’s medieval castle. This motte is well preserved and is one of the region’s most representative terraced sites surrounded by moats.
