Gray: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Gray is home to the Basilica of Notre-Dame, whose nave features a fully star-ribbed vault: the vault is considered a unique example of Flamboyant Gothic throughout the entire province. Construction of the basilica began in 1478 and was completed in 1559.

Culture and History

The Italian-style theatre also combines architectural history with preserved furnishings and fittings. It was built between 1846 and 1849, retains its historic interior and still has most of its original stage machinery.

In Gray, the Hôtel-Dieu houses an apothecary dating from 1722 with 119 faience apothecary jars. The Hôtel de Ville is a Renaissance building dating from 1567 to 1572 and has a polychrome glazed-tile roof.

The Musée Baron Martin presents paintings and sculptures in historic salons, as well as archaeological objects in medieval vaulted cellars. Another special feature can be found at the Tour Saint-Pierre Fourier in Gray: its rotating wooden staircase is considered the only surviving example of its kind in France. The tower can be visited on request through the Val de Gray Tourist Office as part of a guided tour.
