Culture and History
The church of Plancher-Bas is dedicated to Saint Pancras (Saint-Pancrace) and dates back to 1488. Following a severe fire in 1771, the church nave and bell tower were rebuilt the following year, in 1772.

The history of the village includes the Desloye paper mill, later known as Terré: it was established in 1820 on the site of an older hemp mill and had a three-storey building by 1822. The production workshop is now in ruins.
The Reboud Frères non-ferrous metal foundry was built between 1891 and 1897.
Waterways and Protected Areas
The Ruisseau du Rupt des Gouttes in Plancher-Bas is covered by a prefectural decree on biotope protection dated 13 April 2007.
On the Rahin in Plancher-Bas, there is a 490-metre no-kill section for trout and grayling. It extends from the border with Plancher-les-Mines to 200 metres downstream of the bridge opposite the entrance to the Reboud factory.
The fishing section on the Rahin in Plancher-Bas runs from the municipal boundary between Plancher-Bas and Plancher-les-Mines to the locality of Général Brosset. On the Ruisseau d'Auxelles, the fishing section extends from the municipal boundary to its confluence with the Rahin.
Surroundings
Mount Mont Ménard is located in the immediate vicinity of Plancher-Bas. The surroundings of Plancher-Bas also include Tête des Sapins mountain, Fort du Salbert, Mont Ordon-Verrier mountain, and Planche des Belles Filles mountain.
The historic sites North Hornwork, Rue de la Cavalerie Bastion, and Northeastern Counterguard are also located in the vicinity of Plancher-Bas.
