Jougne: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Jougne combines historic buildings with paths through forests and valleys. The Chapelle Saint-Maurice was rebuilt in the 12th century above a 9th-century Carolingian crypt. Since 30 April 1930, it has been classified as a historic monument and is also the last remaining part of a priory.

Culture and History

The Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste de Jougne overlooks the Jougnena Valley and is located by Jougne’s fortifications. It was built in the 17th century and rebuilt in the mid-19th century. Its Comtois-style bell tower was rebuilt in 1981.

A historic detail has also been preserved at Jougne’s north gate: it retains a segmental arch bearing the town’s coat of arms. A Roman road also ran through Jougne, leading from Potal via the Col du Grand-Saint-Bernard to Lausanne and onward to Besançon; it later became a trade and monastic route.

Hiking and Nature

The La Jougnena circular hike in Jougne is difficult, 17.7 kilometres long, and listed with a stated duration of 7 hours and 30 minutes. It explores the Jougnena Valley and the valley between Jougne and Vallorbe via Ballaigues, and leads into Switzerland.

The Entre-les-Fourgs par la forêt route runs along a wooded slope through a beech forest; hikers may see chamois there. It runs between the Chapelle Saint-Maurice and the Chapelle Saint-Claude.

Winter

At the Téléskis d'Entre les Fourgs - Jougne, there are two groomed family trails for Nordic skiing. Marked snowshoe trails with views of the Alps from the summit are also available there.
