Mouthe: Holiday apartments and houses

The Doubs River rises in Mouthe. Anyone considering Mouthe as a travel destination may wish to rent a holiday apartment for their stay.

Nature

Les Seignes is one of the two major peatland areas in Mouthe. The Source du Doubs nature area is listed in the directory of natural areas of the Doubs département. The Pré-bois des Bâties area in Mouthe is also designated as an Espace Naturel Sensible; special management measures apply to this area to preserve or improve its biodiversity.

The Belvédère de la Source offers views over the Mouthe valley and the first meanders of the Doubs. It can be reached via a prepared path; approximately 30 minutes are planned for the circular route.

Culture

The stone Église de l’Assomption in Mouthe dates from the 18th century. It has been fully listed as a historic monument since 16 April 2009 and can be visited free of charge all year round. The Pierre de la Dîme is located directly opposite. In the Middle Ages, it served the landowners to collect the tithe owed to the Mouthe priory.

Mouthe Town Hall was built in 1849 under the rule of Louis-Philippe in the style of a Renaissance château. It has been listed in the supplementary register of historic monuments since 21 June 1990. The Presbytère at 13 Grande Rue dates from 1753.

Hiking and winter sports

The Tour du Val de Mouthe is a difficult circular route measuring 40.1 kilometres. It passes through the Risoux Forest and includes the Source du Doubs. From Pontarlier, the Tour du Val de Mouthe can be reached via the D437 towards Mouthe. In connection with this route, the wetlands of the Cébriot and the peatlands of Mouthe are designated as an area for hiking.

Along the Tour du Val de Mouthe are murgers, stone heaps that were removed from the pastures by former residents to make room for grass and thus for grazing livestock. Three snowshoeing and/or walking trails begin at the Chez Liadet site. The GTJ route “Source du Doubs – Chaux-Neuve” is 6.9 kilometres long.

The Transjurassienne finishes in Mouthe and includes competitions in classic and skating styles. Pécoud Sport in Mouthe offers cross-country, skating, backcountry, Nordic walking, snowshoeing and ski-shoeing equipment.
