Distinctive routes through the Jura pass through Les Alliés: the Vy aux Moines route runs between the Abbaye de Montbenoît and the Abbaye de Môtiers in Switzerland via the village. The Grande Traversée du Jura à pied also passes through Les Alliés – a difficult, 237.1-kilometre GR hiking route designed to be completed in 20 days. Landscape
Les Alliés is part of the Saugeais, which is considered a low mountain landscape characterised by fir trees and juniper, old, low-slung and welcoming Comtois farmhouses, numerous walking trails and several panoramic summits.
The Rochers du Cerf viewpoint on the Côte du Cerf route offers views of the Jura ridges and summits in the Pays Horloger and Haut-Doubs, as well as the Alps. Le Signal, a hill, is also located near Les Alliés. The wider regional area is home to several mountains: Mont de Baulmes, Montagne du Laveron and Le Dos-d'âne.
Routes
The French section of the Vy aux Moines route is designated as a combined route for hiking and mountain biking. Another connection is the Crêtes franco-suisses route – No. 35: it temporarily passes through Switzerland and then follows the Ruisseau des Étraches to the French village of Les Alliés.
Culture and History
On 14 October 1915, a decree confirmed the name Les Alliés for the municipality. Les Alliés had already been listed in 1127, in a land donation by Landry, Sire de Joux, to the religious community of Montbenoît, as one of the eleven villages of the Saugeais.
The parish church of Sainte-Foy in Les Alliés houses the Marie-Marthe-Françoise bell. The two statues of adoring angels depict kneeling biblical figures in a devotional context.
The Château de Joux, a castle, is located near Les Alliés. The wider regional area is also home to Chateau d'Yverdon, a castle, the Menhirs de Clendy archaeological site and the Abbaye de Mont-Sainte-Marie historic site.
