Tox: Holiday apartments and holiday homes
In Tox, historic religious buildings meet a challenging hiking trail and a pastoral farm with Corsican goats. Culture, landscape and traditional farmstead cheese production thus stand side by side as different facets of the village.
History and culture
The Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste in Tox has been listed as a historic monument since 2 November 1976. The present-day complex comprises a nave, a campanile and an adjoining chapel belonging to the brotherhood. The church was built in the 18th century in place of a Romanesque predecessor; medieval stone slabs were reused in the process.
Another historic site is the Chapelle A Madonna di e Grazie de Tox. It was built in 1830 by the missionary priest Ange Dominique Filippi and is located at an altitude of over 500 metres on Santa Brigitta hill. The chapel offers an exceptional panorama. A procession is organised at the Chapelle A Madonna di e Grazie de Tox on 31 May.
Hiking
The Sentier Huit de Tox is classified as a difficult route. It starts and ends in Tox and has 917 metres of ascent and 908 metres of descent. The trail offers unobstructed panoramic views and leads to Funtana A Reniccia, Bocca di u Vallu, the Chapelle Notre Dame des Graces, the Pagliaghju and the Pozzi Acqua Fredula.
Agriculture
Capra Parc is a pastoral farm with Corsican goats and organic traditional farmstead cheese production. By appointment, Capra Parc offers educational mornings on Tuesdays and Fridays, including a farm tour, milking, tasting and a course.
Those planning a stay in Tox may therefore wish to rent a holiday apartment.
