Landscape
Theneuil lies on the banks of the Vienne. The Bourouse runs through the village from north to south. Theneuil is one of the municipalities in the Loire-Anjou-Touraine Regional Nature Park.
Culture and history
At the Church of Sainte-Trinité, the south portal and an adjoining trefoil-shaped niche date from the 15th century. The chancel was added to the nave in the 13th century; the north side chapel was added around 1655, and the south chapel in 1747.
The Château du Temple was built around 1886 for Jacques Lhuillier, director of the Crédit foncier égyptien. The grounds of the Château du Temple were surrounded by an artificial river, a basin, greenhouses, obelisks and numerous terracotta or cement statues.
The Parc du château du Temple contains depictions of Diana as well as the cement sculpture group Leda and the Swan. A wild boar, also made of cement, is a copy of the Porcellino and is in poor condition. The Moulin de la Planche retains its conical slate-covered roof, parts of its internal mechanism and the Guivre used to align the sails.
Things to do
The PR Le Pigeonnier hiking trail in Theneuil is 16.3 km long. Trout are released in the section from the Moulin de Tirot in Chezelles to the Moulin de Theneuil.
