Panzoult borders the Vienne, a tributary of the Loire. The town's landscape includes the slope at the Grotte de la Sibylle and the Étang de Bois Girault, which have formed a 25-hectare registered landscape since 16 August 1944. Wine and landscape
The Cave Touristique de la Sibylle is run and brought to life by 14 independent winegrowers. The vineyards of Panzoult are cultivated under the AOC Chinon designation. Domaine Grosbois is also an AOC Chinon wine-growing estate, managed according to the principles of organic and biodynamic farming.
As part of its mixed-farming operation, Domaine Grosbois offers tours and tastings all year round, as well as meals at the Table du Pressoir from May to September. The estate is located on a former fortified farm dating from the 15th century.
The signposted Boucle de la Sibylle is a 12-kilometre circular trail. It starts at the tourist Cave de la Sibylle and leads through the viewpoints of the wine-growing region. The Cave de la Sibylle in Panzoult is carved into tuff stone and offers a sound and light show in the heart of the Chinon wine-growing region.
Culture and history
In the 12th century, the parish church of Saint-Vincent in Panzoult belonged to Marmoutier Abbey. Its western façade preserves a remnant of the original 11th-century church.
The historic buildings also include a dovecote with around 2,400 nesting chambers for pigeons. Its hexagonal floor plan is unique in the region.
