Larçay: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Larçay’s 16-kilometre “Circuit nature” is an environmentally focused hiking trail approved by the Fédération Française de Randonnée Pédestre. It runs along the banks of the Cher, through the Forêt de Larçay and across the plateau.

Nature and Trails

Larçay’s 6-kilometre “Circuit patrimoine” is a walking trail through the history and life of the community. In addition, the Parc des Brosses includes a 1,645-metre fitness circuit on a natural surface.

The Parc des Brosses is also home to the Plan d’Eau du Cher: a 15,000-square-metre fishing lake on a natural surface that is publicly accessible on foot.

The Cœur de France à vélo cycle route runs for 2.5 kilometres along the right bank of the Cher in Larçay. Three boat sails are located on the banks of the Cher near Larçay, close to the lock keeper’s house and along the Cœur de France à vélo cycle route.

Culture and History

The Castellum of Larçay is located on the slope above the Cher Valley and offers extensive views over the alluvial plain to the north. A large part of the Castellum is still visible on three sides. It may have been built between 256 and 270 AD; however, an exact date could not be established.

The base of the bell tower of the Church of Saint-Symphorien is a Romanesque rectangular tower dating from the 12th century. The church also contains two fragments of 16th-century stained-glass windows classified as historic monuments, as well as three 17th-century paintings, one of which is painted on wood. These paintings were added to the supplementary inventory in 1999 and 2002.

The Larçay needle weir is one of the 16 movable weirs that the engineer Camille Bailloud had built on the Cher between 1836 and 1841. His system was inspired by the design invented by Charles Poirée in 1834. The needle weir is 44 metres long and is one of the sights that can be discovered on foot or by bicycle.

The fifth edition of the Le Sentier des Muses festival was scheduled to take place on 6 and 7 June 2026 in the church of Larçay. The programme was to include Schubert, as well as a dialogue between contemporary music and great classical works.

Cycling Options

The small Cycl’eau-Trésor loop in Larçay starts and ends at the town hall, 3 Rue de 8-Mai. The circular route includes a 2.95-kilometre loop in Larçay. The Cycl’eau-Trésor map includes 20 stations with 25 collection points, 12 of them in Larçay and 13 in Véretz.

The “Le carnet magique de grand-père” cycling route is 14 kilometres long and is completed via the Baludik app, with escape-game-style puzzles. Designed as an escape game, the route ends in Larçay with three different stations; the stated duration is approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes.
