Hiking and Cycling
The Sentier des Lavandières is an easy 5.5 km cultural and historical hiking trail with a walking time of about 1 hour and 15 minutes.
The trail passes the house and the grave of Eugène Bizeau.
The Sentier de Bacchus is more challenging: the hiking trail is 15 km long, difficult, and has an indicated walking time of about 4 hours. On the section through Véretz, the GR41 runs together with the regional long-distance hiking trail and the historical hiking trail of the Dames de Touraine valley.
The small hiking trail known as “futreau” is 10.5 km long, moderately difficult, and takes about 2 hours.
The “Cœur de France à vélo” cycling route passes through Larçay, Véretz, and Azay-sur-Cher. It runs along the northern bank of the Cher and passes through the Véretz area.
Culture and History
The Château de Véretz was a fortress in the Middle Ages. During the Renaissance, it was converted into a representative residence before being rebuilt in 1836. The château is currently privately owned.
Remains of the Gallo-Roman aqueduct that carried water from the spring at Athée-sur-Cher to Caesarodunum, present-day Tours, are visible in the park of the Château de Véretz and at the entrance to the Jardins des Isles.
In Véretz, the middle Cher flows through the area, the section between Noyers-sur-Cher and Tours. The river is canalized and has 16 locks.
