History
The present-day Musée de la Devinière, also known as the Maison de Rabelais, is protected as a historic monument. The residential building was listed as a historic monument on 14 February 1930, and the dovecote on 3 August 1951.
La Devinière is a country house belonging to the Rabelais family that dates back to the 15th century. Some historians consider it to be the birthplace of François Rabelais.
The Abbey of Seuilly was founded around 1100 by Benedictine monks, partially destroyed, and rebuilt in the 15th and 17th centuries. It became known through François Rabelais, who completed his early studies there. The exterior of the abbey can be visited free of charge and independently.
Local offerings
The Maison de Pays on the ground floor of the tithe barn of Seuilly Abbey hosts art exhibitions from Easter to September, sells local products and provides tourist information for visitors' stays.
The Maison de Pays at Seuilly Abbey also offers local gastronomic specialities such as poires tapées, Loire fish rillettes and wines. The selection also includes handicrafts and a bookshop.
