The Church of Notre-Dame is fully vaulted. Its Latin cross-shaped layout comprises a single-nave nave and rib vaults. In Touraine, it is considered a rare example of a choir with statue-bearing ribs.

The apse of Notre-Dame was classified as a historic monument by decree of 6 October 1921; the rest of the church building was registered as a historic monument by decree of 17 September 1953.

History

Mougon was located on the right bank of the Vienne and was an important centre of pottery production during the High Empire. In the Gallo-Roman period, Mougon was a secondary agglomeration. One tradition links the Mougon church to an original place of worship said to have been built around 450 by Saint Perpet.

The Château de Paviers was built in the 15th and 16th centuries.

Landscape

The 1,454-hectare municipal area of Crouzilles is bordered to the south by the Vienne and to the north by the Manse and the La Boire stream.

The Puits-Livet terrace in Crouzilles is considered suitable for viticulture in the Chinon AOC appellation and lies at an elevation of 13 to 20 metres.

Cycle Route No. 36 passes through Crouzilles. The easy circular route is 23.3 kilometres long.

The Domaine de la Sablière welcomes visitors; visitors should enquire by telephone before visiting.
