Culture and History
The Maison aux Tourelles is a remarkable 16th-century residence built between steep gables made of hewn stone and covered with a slate roof.
The Château des Réaux, formerly called Plessis-Rideau, dates from the 15th century; its wing, built entirely of tuffeau stone, dates from the 17th century, and the western moat has been preserved.
The village church contains Renaissance paintings as well as an altar stone from the chapel of the former Plessis aux Moines priory, founded in the 11th century.
At the Loire Port
The Quai des Sarrazins preserves the 800-metre-long quay of the formerly important Loire port; it was extended in the 19th century and restored in 1999.
The Musée des Mariniers presents the history of the villagers, Loire boatmen and river navigation using themed panels; several models are also on display. It is open from mid-June to mid-September, Thursday to Sunday, from 2 to 6 p.m., and welcomes visitors year-round by appointment.
From June to September, the Martinienne II offers a boat trip organised together with winegrowers from Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil and the friends of the Musée des Mariniers de Chouzé.
