Donnemain-Saint-Mamès: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Donnemain-Saint-Mamès combines historic architectural features with the landscape of the Conie. Between the church, traditional hamlet, wet woodland and reed beds, the village presents a varied character.

Culture

The church of Donnemain-Saint-Mamès preserves Romanesque openings and corbels along the nave. Its largely complete 18th-century furnishings include a pulpit, a confessional and two side altars. There are also stained-glass windows made by Atelier LOIRE in 2004. Donnemain-Saint-Mamès has a 12th-century church that was probably remodelled in the 16th century.

Village Character

In the Hameau de Dheury, traditional buildings feature reed roofs, walls made of clay with flint and straw, known as “bauge”, as well as limestone surrounds. Some buildings are aligned with their gables facing the road. The Hameau de Dheury lies on the northern slope along the Conie; the tallest buildings are located below the ridgeline. The hamlet is registered as a protected site (“site inscrit”); the registration was established by a decree dated 29 July 1988.

Nature

Les Marais is a protected natural site on the banks of the Conie, with wet woodland and reed beds. Since June 2008, it has been home to a permanently accessible observation platform offering views of the Conie, its reed beds and the local wildlife. The Les Marais natural site is not open to the public, but it can be viewed from the rural path along the right bank of the marshland.

Cycling

The “Les rouches de la Conie – boucle n°22” cycle route passes through meadows and woodland in the Conie valley.
