Anet: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Château d’Anet was built between 1547 and 1552. At the request of Diane de Poitiers, it was designed by Philibert de l’Orme; prominent artists of the French Renaissance, including Léonard Limosin, Jean Goujon and Jean Cousin, decorated it.

Culture

The Château d’Anet estate includes all its built and undeveloped areas, furnishings and hydraulic facilities; it was classified as a historic monument by decree of 25 March 1993. Today, only the left wing of the original château remains, having been altered in the mid-17th century. The surviving structures also include the entrance gatehouse, casts of the clock group and the chapel.

The Centre d’Interprétation de la Renaissance enables visitors to explore the interior of the Château d’Anet and understand the king’s daily routine as well as the layout of a Renaissance château. Guided tours are offered at the château. The Centre also has a bookshop with numerous books about the Château d’Anet, Diane de Poitiers and the Renaissance.

The Église Saint-Cyr et Sainte-Julitte was classified as a historic monument by decree of 29 December 1960. Its nave and side aisles were built in the mid-16th century, while the apse belongs to a structure dating from the 12th or 13th century. The church can be visited freely every day, except during services.

The Chapelle funéraire de Diane de Poitiers houses the tomb of Diane de Poitiers and can be visited with a valid admission ticket for the château. At the L’Atelier d’Anet library, the Pierre-André Gourgand collection is accessible in two designated reading rooms; access is free of charge during the library’s opening hours. The collection includes works by Picasso, Miró and Vlaminck, a drawing by Marie Laurencin, and a nearly 2,000-year-old Chinese funerary figurine.

Nature

Le domaine de Diane is a marked, 9.7-kilometre hike through the Dreux state forest, lasting 2 hours and 30 minutes. The route starts in Anet and follows marked paths along village outskirts and through sunken lanes. It leads to the Vallée des Cailles, a 45-hectare nature reserve crossed by the GR22, and then back to the centre of Anet. Leisure activities in Anet include fishing, among others.

A historical tour lasting approximately one hour is also offered in Anet. Hélène Ragot opened her own studio and boutique in Anet town centre in November 2017. She offers made-to-measure creations developed together with customers in accordance with their personality and story.
