Sauzon: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

In Sauzon, local history, coastal landscapes and water sports come together. A notable historical landmark is the Saint-Nicolas parish church in Sauzon: it was built in 1894 by the Nantes-based architect Le Diberder.

Culture and History

The Fort de la Pointe du Cardinal is fully listed as a historic monument; the listing was made by decree on 30 October 2000. A guardhouse dating from 1861 is also located at the Pointe du Cardinal.

The archaeological sites of Jean Menhir and Jeanne Menhir, classified as ancient sites, are located in the immediate surroundings of Sauzon. The Citadelle de Belle-Île-en-Mer, classified as a castle, is also located near Sauzon. The Fort Sarah Bernhardt, classified as a fortress, is likewise situated in the immediate surroundings.

Coast and Nature

The Pointe des Poulains was acquired by the Conservatoire du Littoral in 2000 and is the subject of a protection and enhancement programme. The cave formations Puits du Port-Blanc, Puits de la Baguen-Hir, Grotte des Chouans and Grotte de l'Apothicairerie are located in the immediate surroundings of Sauzon.

The Espace Sarah Bernhardt at the Pointe des Poulains offers an approximately one-hour audio-guided visit. The island on which the Phare des Poulains is located is freely accessible year-round; tide times must be observed because of the tides.

Garden and Water Sports

The Jardin Eden du Voyageur features aromatic plants that are appreciated year-round for their fragrance as well as their medicinal and culinary properties.

The Belle-Île Surf Club is a surf school on Donnant Beach in Sauzon. The Belle-Île Surf Club courses include wetsuits and surfboards.
