Sainte-Hélène on the Ria d’Étel combines connections to water sports and birdlife with a diverse religious and local history.

Kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding are available at Pointe de la Vieille Chapelle; excursions are also offered there for hire. The Cercle Nautique de la Ria d’Étel offers guided excursions on the Ria d’Étel. Fishing, sailing and kayaking are listed as options for exploring the Ria d’Étel at Pointe de la Vieille Chapelle.

Nature

At Pointe de la Vieille Chapelle in Locoal-Mendon, there is a picnic area opposite Pointe du Verdon. The Ria d’Étel near Sainte-Hélène serves as a habitat and nesting area for numerous resident and migratory bird species.

Culture and History

The Chapelle Notre-Dame de Pitié in Kerdavid was built in 1858 to replace the former Chapelle de Kerentré at Pointe de la Vieille Chapelle. The chapel preserves a maritime votive ship model. At the site of the Vieille Chapelle, the foundations of the former chapel, built in the 15th century, and an altar dated to the year 590 have been preserved. The Christianised stele in Rue de l’Avancée dates from the Iron Age; each side is decorated with a finely engraved cross.
