La Vraie-Croix: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

La Vraie-Croix offers remarkable evidence of Breton history and diverse landscapes within a small area. Particularly distinctive is the Chapelle de La Vraie-Croix: its preserved original portal dates from the 13th century, while the rest of the chapel dates from the 16th century. The chapel was built over a public road and is open to the public every day from Easter to All Saints’ Day.

Culture and History

The historic village setting also includes the Fontaine du Saint. The basin beside the spring served as a washhouse, while the Fontaine du Saint itself is protected as a historic monument. Maison Louis is the oldest house in the village and has a round tower. The building housed a hospital for pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela or Jerusalem, operated by the monks of the Order of St John of Jerusalem.

Further insights into the village’s history are provided by the parish church dedicated to Saint Isidore, with its remarkable interior woodwork, as well as the ruined houses near Le Tostal. They illustrate the period at the end of the 19th century, when workers came to build the railway line.

Nature and Gardens

In the village centre lies the tree-lined Étang du Pont-Palais, a suitable place for family walks. The pond has picnic tables, play facilities for children and a pétanque court. The Lande de Coët Ruel is designated as an Espaces naturels sensibles (ENS) area and covers 4.4 hectares of moderately dry heathland and a wet meadow.

Another facet of the village is revealed by the themed gardens of La Vraie-Croix, with fuchsias, dahlias and sage, including rare and unusual varieties.

The 9 km Circuit de Langroez enables hikers to discover a diverse range of flora and fauna in the village centre and in the villages along the route.
