Billio has country paths through gently hilly, wooded terrain, inviting visitors to stroll, walk and enjoy outdoor sports.

Nature

The hiking trails in Billio can be reached via the N24 between Ploërmel and Lorient, taking the exit towards Guéhenno/Saint-Jean-Brévelay, then following the D778 and, in Guéhenno, the D165 to Billio.

The “Circuit des chemins de traverse” circular trail offers an 8 km option as an alternative to the full 14 km route. It recommends visiting the La Bonne Fontaine spring below the road to Cruguel and passes the preserved Trévras manor house, which is part of the local heritage.

The “Circuit de la mare aux biches” circular trail starts at the car park by Billio church and alternates between wooded sections, paths and wide tracks. It leads to the “Espace du souvenir”, created in memory of the soldiers killed between 1914 and 1918.

Culture

The Notre-Dame church in Billio was completely rebuilt in the 19th century. Its choir preserves choir stalls, tall wooden panelling and three stained-glass windows created by the glass artist Bonneville. A stone slab set into the present-day choir wall bears a Gothic inscription dating from 1553.

Villagescape and Language

The flower-decorated houses in Billio form a regionally characteristic ensemble of granite buildings in Morbihan. The place names include Breton forms such as Kervallon and Kerlué, as well as Gallo-influenced names such as la Ville Guingamp and la Grée Maréchal; they bear witness to the historical coexistence of both languages. Gallo remains the native language of Billio’s older inhabitants, who still use it.
