Poilley: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

In Poilley, the “Madeleine de Sinéty” hiking trail is accessible to walkers. The Madeleine de Sinety hiking trail is signposted in both directions and forms a loop of approximately 11 km. For over 1 km, the trail follows the Beuvron.

Landscape

The hiking trail running through Poilley passes through a strongly defined bocage landscape with agricultural plots dominated by hedgerows. Along the route are centuries-old oaks, chestnut trees and beech trees; there are also natural granite boulders. The Beuvron is the most important feature of Poilley’s water network.

History and Culture

The Church of Saint Martin was entrusted to the Benedictines of Mont-Saint-Michel around the year 1000. Its nave dates from the second half of the 16th century and preserves a reused door and a 15th-century window on the south side.

The Château de Poilley is the manor house of the former parish. Its main construction phase dates to the transition from the 16th to the 17th century.

The Croix du Demeau is an octagonal cross that probably dates from the 16th century and is listed as a historic monument. Its name may derive from a local grain measure called “demia”. The “sources-lavoirs” located along the hiking route were formerly used to provide water. Some of the houses along the hiking route have round doors made of reddish granite and elegant exterior chimneys.
