Dompierre-du-Chemin: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

In Dompierre-du-Chemin, the Saut-Roland landscape, historic buildings and paths connecting the village with its surroundings come together.

Nature

The Saut-Roland area combines woodland, wet meadows, cliffs up to 173 metres high and a stream; access is from the centre of Dompierre-du-Chemin. Its quartzite rocks were quarried 150 years ago because of their quality and used for the construction and maintenance of roads. This landscape includes the Rochers du Saut-Roland, a quartzite climbing area in Dompierre-du-Chemin. The legend of Saut-Roland also includes the spring “la pierre dégouttante”, covered by a rock and symbolising the “belle inconsolable”.

Culture

The parish church of Saint-Pierre has the oldest elements of the choir in the form of 12th-century buttresses; its windows recall the 14th century. The small altars on either side of the chancel arch bear the year 1699. The high altar also appears to date from the 17th century and is adorned with an altarpiece topped by the coat of arms of the Chapter of Rennes.

The centre of Dompierre-du-Chemin preserves some older remains as well as a significant architectural heritage from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The Château de Kodéan is one of the notable elements of Dompierre-du-Chemin’s cultural heritage.

Paths

The “Circuit du Saut-Roland” is a hiking trail of approximately 5.9 kilometres in Dompierre-du-Chemin; the average walking time is 1 hour and 30 minutes. The “Circuit du Chevalier Roland” connects the villages of Dompierre and Luitré and is an easy, 11-kilometre hiking trail.

The greenway between Fougères and Vitré passes through Dompierre-du-Chemin. The former railway line from Vitré to Pontorson has been revived as the “La Régalante” greenway.

Centre

The Parc de la Belle Aude in the centre of Dompierre has a pump track, an ESCALADO play area and picnic areas.
