Saint-Jean-Trolimon borders the coast and offers a green landscape ideal for walking. In Audierne Bay, Plage de Tronoën lies in a Natura 2000 area with dunes, ponds and large areas of preserved natural environment.

Nature

Plage de Tronoën is a 1.6-kilometre-long sandy beach suitable for board sports, including surfing. The GR34 runs along the edge of the dunes, allowing walks on the beach and through the dunes.

The circular trail Circuit les trois chapelles begins and ends at the car park of Chapelle de Tronoën. It is signposted with yellow PR and white-and-red GR34 markings and passes through sensitive natural areas protected by the Conservatoire du Littoral.

Culture

The stone Calvaire de Tronoën was classified as a historic monument by decree of 13 June 1894. On three levels, it depicts 30 scenes from the life of Christ. It is considered the oldest of the seven monumental calvaries of Brittany. It was probably created between 1450 and 1470 and is considered a possible prototype for the great Breton calvaries.

Chapelle Notre-Dame-de-Tronoën was built in the mid-15th century and features high-quality architecture. It was classified as a historic monument by decree of 27 August 1907. It is known as the “Cathedral of the Dunes” because it was built 1.5 kilometres from the beach.

Chapelle Saint-Evy lies at the bottom of a valley at the foot of a reed bed. A stream flows beneath its choir and feeds the spring in its southern wall; the chapel also features stained-glass windows created by Guy Trevoux in 2007. The Pardon of Chapelle de Tronoën is dedicated to surfers and takes place on the second Sunday in September.

Maison des Jeux Bretons preserves, promotes and passes on traditional Breton games as part of Breton culture and heritage. In a covered area of 300 square metres, it offers around 15 traditional Breton games. Children and adults can play freely there with no age limit; a staff member welcomes visitors on site.

History

Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste was rebuilt in 1886 using the façade of a 16th-century structure. Blockhaus de Tronoën formed part of the Atlantic Wall and was built in 1942 using materials from the Tréguennec pebble-crushing plant.
