Locunolé: Holiday apartments and houses

Locunolé is crossed by the Ellé and lies at the Roches du Diable. The area features a rural bocage landscape; to the east, the Ellé Valley forms the natural boundary with Guilligomarc'h and Arzano.

Nature and water

Locunolé is part of the type 1 ZNIEFF area “Vallée de l’Ellé, de l’aval du Naïc aux Roches du Diable”. The Roches du Diable area is known for canoeing and kayaking, as well as for national and international competitions. The Les moulins de l'Ellé circular hiking trail starts in Locunolé and follows the meanders of the Ellé past mills and the Roches du Diable.

Culture and history

The parish church of Saint-Guénolé preserves the west façade with its monumental portal from the previous building, erected shortly after 1670, as well as the baptismal font inside, dated 1672. The Notre-Dame-du-Folgoët chapel stands in the Locunolé cemetery; the cruciform building with side wings and a polygonal choir bears the year 1681 and the name of the parish priest Corentin Redon. The Sainte-Gertrude chapel is a 16th-century building in the tradition of Flamboyant Gothic architecture; its devotional fountain bears the year 1893.

The centre of Locunolé preserves a historic settlement structure with surviving elements from the 16th and 17th centuries, including rows of houses on Rue des Camélias and the former presbytery at 3 Rue du Moulin Neuf. The Moulin de Kerléon was a former manorial mill, used mainly for grinding wheat, and preserves structural elements from the 17th century. Two wheels with parallel axles are still preserved in the Moulin de Kerléon building. At the Moulin du Stale, eight rounded pillars in the bed of the Ellé now support the bridge deck and partly serve as an overflow. The Le Sparle manor house was built in the 16th century and preserves a spiral staircase and monumental fireplaces.
