Culture and history
The Roc'h Vraz slate quarry in Saint-Eloy was exploited until the 1950s. The Calvary cross of Saint-Eloy is a Kersanton stone calvary dating from the 15th century and older than the parish church; it was probably associated with an older chapel that was destroyed in the 19th century. It is a monolithic cross made of Kersanton stone, with a canopy and figures of the Virgin and Child, Saint Peter, Saint Paul, Saint John and Saint Veronica. A suggested mask can also be seen to the right of Christ.
The Fontaine de Notre Dame de Grâce, also known as “ar Feunteun nevez”, contains a stone statue of the Madonna. The mill of Saint-Eloy was formerly owned by Daoulas Abbey, was altered and renovated, and was deemed dilapidated in 1970. However, it preserves several fixing holes and a pointed-arch door frame.
